Combining instruments such as harmonica, accordion and keys over a double dose of guitar, bass and percussion, BURNriverBURN is a five-piece with a sound unique within the hard rock genre. In the face of the shear magnitude of their drop-tuned riffs rise the vocals of front man John Paterson who both hearkens back to a time when hard rock was just emerging and blazes a trail for the next generation to follow. Drummer Kevin Amann and bassist Dan Knight take the band through the elevations of each song like a locomotive pulling a train thought a mountain pass while guitarists Chuck Howell and Ray Morgan paint the ever-changing scenery with epic chord progressions, sanguine melodies and incendiary solos.
The name BURNriverBURN, coined by Howell, is a reference to Cleveland, Ohio and it’s infamous burning river the “Cuyahoga” which, due to massive dumping, was accidentally set ablaze several times in the late 60′s prompting the creation of the EPA.
This moniker is also a testament to the seemingly contradictory levels of pride and humility that engender most Clevelanders. Knight and Howell are no exception. Just to the right of Ohio come Amann and Paterson who hail from Jamestown, New York and Philly respectively, while Ray Morgan, an ex-patriot from Tallaght-Dublin, Ireland is the group’s sole import.
BURNriverBURN is a true democracy with all five members contributing to the writing and arrangement of all songs as well as art and print media.
With enough years in the business to hone their skills and temper their egos, the five members of BURNriverBURN spearhead the conspiracy to bring good old hard
Rock-n-roll back to the forefront of modern music…

6 years ago what started as a birthday party for singer/songwriter Chris James’ wife, has now turned into a hugely successful summer party of Bay Area bands. This year the 6th annual Patiopalooza will boast 5 bands all of which have recorded at Faultline Studios in one way or another.
This line up is not to be missed and will prove to be one of the best this year. We are grateful to have worked with such talented musicians and now you can see them all in one place!

The hard rock killers finished up mixing their debut release with engineer/producer Juan Caipo of Bang Data. The band then came to Faultline Studios to put on the final sweetness with Starita. The 10 song masterpiece consists of hard driving grooves with stoner metal drop tunings that are undeniable. BURNriverBURN is truly a force to be reckoned with and prove this fact in their stage performances. The band has previously teamed up with another Faultline heavy hitter, Hydrophonic, to bring hard rock back to the San Francisco music scene.
Be sure to keep an ear out for shows and release dates!
San Francisco based blues, psychedelic rock, metal band, Hydrophonic came to Faultline last year to track, mix and master their EP “Beached”. It features groove oriented hard rock riffs by Sam Lowther with a mind blowing rhythm section consisting of Sean Stein and Zack Newman. “Beached” speaks of the days Pantera, Anthrax and Soundgarden ruled the world of rock. These 5 tracks are a welcomed and refreshing stroke of the eardrum that has been a long-time coming. The clever artwork was done by band leader and comedian, Corey Largent, who offers face melting solos with tone for days.
The 4 piece had been holed up in a secret warehouse in San Francisco for months now perfecting their art form to be unleashed, April 7th, at Bottom of the Hill in celebration of the “Beached” release.
This long awaited event was banger as it also featured hard rockers BurnRiverBurn and Electric Shephard in the supporting role. Some say it was the start to the revival revolution of rock in San Francisco!
